Five Anthems

Chornoten Five AnthemsFive Anthems

for SATB Chorus and Keyboard
This volume celebrates the music of Purcell who composed some of the greatest English music, for the Chapel Royal and Westminster Abbey, between 1677 and 1695. His music is charaterised by its expression and originality, well over a hundred of his anthems and devotional songs survive. This volume has selected five of his most popular anthems from this vast repertoire. They are predominatly choral and were probably written between 1680 and 1685.

Who's That Baby?

Chornoten Who's That Baby?Who's That Baby?

‘This may be the most exciting Christmas sprirtual Jay Althouse has ever written. It opens with the basses asking, in a hushed, rhythmic melody, ”Who”s that baby in a manger bed?” The text is classic spiritual style, but the music is anything but… t”s fresh, new, and alive!’

Skylark

Chornoten SkylarkSkylark

This jazz standard has been recorded by everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Bette Midler. Now your groups can perform it with this well crafted arrangement by Kirby Shaw. The optional flute (or violin) part in the SoundPax adds a lilting quality. The voice writing is surprisingly uncomplicated for such a sophisticated melody. Logical voice writing.

Partition Voix et Orgue Bl451
‘French composer, Charles Gounod (1818-1893) was a prominent composer in his day, best remembered for his Ave Maria and opera Faust. 1890 saw the premiere of his Brief Mass. This work helped establish Gounod as a noteworthycomposer. Despite being a minor composer to us today, Gounod was famed in his day, so much so that at his funeral, Camille Saint-Saëns played the organ and Gabriel Fauré conducted. Gounod”s Brief Mass proves the composer”sextraordinary talent and caught the attention of much of Paris when it was first performed, composed for SATB choir, solo voices and organ or piano accompaniment. For all aspiring choirs, Gounod”s Brief Mass is an imperative, sublime addition to the repertoire.’
